App lists differ by handset, so this is the section worth reading carefully before you choose. These are the apps the manufacturers actually state:

·        Fig Flip II Pro and Fig Mini II: Waze, music player, weather, smartlist, calendar and siddur, plus Android Auto on the Flip II Pro.

·        Fusion: Messages, contacts, camera, gallery, calculator, MacroPinch weather, Waze, tfilon, HebDate, music player, clock and Gboard.

·        Qin F30 Kosher: Gmail, Uber, HebDate, smartlist, weather and Waze, plus Android Auto. Video playback capped at two minutes.

·        Kosher Qin F21: A base app set plus custom additions. This is the model to ask about if you need something specific, and it includes hotspot.

·        TCL Flip T408DL: Waze, smartlist, HebDate, weather and zmanim when you choose the talk, text and apps level.

What Stays Blocked at Every App Level

Adding apps does not loosen the wall. On every handset in this collection the browser is absent from the operating system, there is no app store to open, social media apps are not installable, and video is restricted or capped. On the Fig devices the restrictions survive a factory reset, so the phone cannot be argued back open.

The distinction that matters here is between a filtered browser, where a real browser sits behind a content filter, and a browser-free device, where the browser was never installed. Everything on this page is the second kind.

Navigation: Waze, Android Auto and GPS

Navigation is the single most common reason people move up to this level, so it is worth knowing there are two ways to get it.

On-device Waze runs the map on the phone screen. The Fig Mini II, Fig Flip II Pro, Fusion, Qin F30, TCL and Wonderphone all offer it. Android Auto instead pushes navigation onto the car's screen over a cable, which keeps the phone in your pocket while you drive. The Fig Core lists Android Auto as its navigation route rather than on-device Waze, which is the key difference between the Core and the Mini.

If navigation is the only thing you need, a phone may be the wrong purchase. We also sell standalone kosher GPS and Waze devices including the Mehadrin GPS at $350, which does nothing but navigate.

Which kosher phones have Waze?

Can I get WhatsApp on a kosher phone with apps?

Is there still a browser if the phone has apps?

No. Every handset in this collection is browser-free, meaning the browser is absent from the operating system rather than hidden or filtered. Adding an app does not add a browser.

Can I get email on a kosher phone?

Yes on some. The Qin F30 ships with Gmail, and the Kyocera models in our less restricted collection can be configured for talk, text and email.

What is Android Auto and do I need it?

Android Auto sends navigation and calls to your car's built-in screen over a cable, so the phone stays in your pocket while driving. It is useful if your car supports it, and it is the navigation route the Fig Core lists.

Can apps be added after I buy the phone?

Do these phones play video?

Only in a limited way. Fig restricts video playback, the Qin F30 caps playback at two minutes, and the Fig Mini II limits playback to videos taken on that phone. These are deliberate rabbinic guidelines.
